1408 Preview

June 8, 2007 Posted by Tyler Cruz

The following review is sponsored by the movie 1408.

Another horror/thriller adapted from a short story by Stephen King, the 1408 movie follows supernatural writer Mike Enslin, an author of two hit books focusing on supernatural phenomena. Enslin is determined to research the notorious room 1408 in a New York City hotel firsthand, by personally staying as a guest in the fabled room.

Before I continue, I should state that I’m a Stephen King fan. I’ve read The Stand (Unabridged), The Tommyknockers, Cell, The Dark Tower, Dreamcatcher, and From a Buick 8. The Stand is among my top 3 favourite books.

For those that have not read King before, you probably have seen one of the movies based on his books. Some of the more notable films adapted from King’s writings are: The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, The Shining, and Carrie, proving that King’s books can pass onto the big screen just as well as they fare on paper.

Below is the trailer for 1408, please take a look before reading on:

I’m not the biggest fan of the horror genre, but I definitely love thrillers. I believe that John Cusack fits Enslin’s role perfect here, and is a perfect match for this movie.

I can’t help but compare this to Cusack in the 2003 horror/mystery/thriller, Identity. Cusack was perfect in Identity and so I’m glad that he has decided to follow-up in this genre. I believe the director of 1408, Mikael Håfström, chose Cusack for this very reason.

Playing opposite Cusack is Mr. Samuel L. Jackson. It will be very interesting to see just how much a role Jackson has in the film since he appears to be just the hotel manager. Those who are familiar with King’s writings know that his role may turn out to be more than just the hotel manager… 😉

The 1408 movie comes out on June 22nd. If you’re a fan of King, Cusack, Samuel L. Jackson, horror, mysteries, or thrillers, then you may want to put 1408 on your list of movies to watch this summer.

WTF.. At least do reviews that interest your reader base….

If this continues I will unsubscribe.

  2. Dan says:

Educated guess that he doesn’t really care if you unsubscribe because he just made $50.

Tyler, any opinion on this (maybe next blog post: http://politics.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/06/09/0123202&from=rss)

It was actually $60 and it’s already in my PayPal account 😉

No, I hadn’t heard of that, but I’ve been really slacking in work lately. If poker is legalized again, oh baby, watch out!

You’re really ‘slacking’ in work lately? When have you ever busted your butt…it seems you are eternally lazy and that will be your downfall. Sad but true. If you don’t have the hunger to succeed you will fail. This is evident by the progress of all your sites aside from pokerforums which, thankfully for you, was a fluke success.

Time to wake up and put some more eggs in other baskets Tyler. You have a mortgage to pay and a future to consider. You certainly don’t want to be moving back to Mom and Dad’s if your poker site faulters. Also, you don’t appear to have any plans for a REAL job/career so you better seriously start busting your butt.

Wow, $60.00, nice. I reviewed the 1408 Movie on my personal blog with much stricter opp requirements for only $18.00.

You’re really getting some special treatment with PPP! 🙂

  3. Nomar says:

man, that movie is going to be downloaded !

  4. Jason C. says:

    Psst, Tyler a hint.

NO ONE cares about paid reviews, because like the names implies they are paid. The reviews are meant to please the person who buys it and not your audience. And who disagrees is lying.
Why would you want to spend quite some time to write a review, just so the person who’s sponsoring it replies “nah, your review sucks, no deal”.

If I want to read about movie reviews, I´ll visit the appropriate sites.

Come on, doing crappy reviews, asking $25 to reveal your designer’s name…are you that desperate for money?

Instead of working on your sites, you are wasting time with these crappy reviews.

I can´t really understand how a guy, who earned so much money in the past, is now worried with pocket change.

If you really want to earn money with your blog, lose all that paid review crap and start selling direct advertising.

Place a single ad with a text on top of your sidebar. Better yet, use Open ads (former PhpAdsNews) to rotate 5-10 advertisers, so each of them gets 50%-10% of your site’s (total) pageviews.

when you do a paid review why don’t you make a relavent post at the same time that way you please everyone.

  6. Reggie says:

Gerald’s Game is the shit. You should read that book. Carrie was pretty good too.

  7. wesley says:

Someone should create a filtered RSS feed where it only includes post that include webmaster related keywords 🙂 I’m sure it’s doable via yahoo pipes 😉

  8. bryan says:

Im just impressed you got a paid review by a movie that mainstream whether it be a PR stunt or maybe your just claiming that they paid you….It would be a good place to put it on movieforums tho

  9. Mark says:

Please stop with off topic paid reviews. I don’t mind web design related, but not anything off topic.

    Keep up the great work!
