45-Hour Week Challenge

July 21, 2007 Posted by Tyler Cruz

For those not already familiar with my 40-hour week challenge, I had tried to work 40 hours within a 7-day span. I failed the first two times, but made it on my third attempt.

Lately I’ve been slacking way too much again… this past week I think I worked a total of 7 hours. And my laziness is showing on my sites. So, while my new challenge will only last a week, the amount of work that I can cram into these challenge is pretty amazing, and hopefully it will help make up for all of my recent slacking.

My new challenge, then, is to work 45-hours from July 21st 5:00 pm to July 28th 5:00 pm. However, I’ve added some extra incentive this time around. I’m going to put up $20 to the first 5 people who comment on this post. They will receive the money if I do not make the 45-hours by July 28th atΒ 5:00 pm. This should help push me a little.

So, to the first 5 people who comment, please leave your PayPal address or if you don’t want to disclose that publicly you can e-mail it to me from the same e-mail that you have attached to your account here.

It’s really a shame how poor my work ethic is. I just find it so difficult to work when I can play.. you know? Especially during summer… But again, hopefully the amount of work that I’ll get done during this challenge will make up for the very slow past few weeks.

Anyhow, wish me luck. 45-hours in 7-days seems rather silly, especially when most people work 40 hours in 5 days, but it’s an extremely difficult task for me. I mean, that’s an average of 6.5 hours a day.. which just seems outrageous to me…

    Good luck with your challenge.

One thing I found helped with getting on task is having a personal business coach from businesscoach.com. My coach holds me accountable for my actions when no one else will.

Hah! I’d never say I wish you to fail in something, but for $20, I’m crossing my fingers! πŸ™‚

How about paying $20 to the first 7 people that comment? πŸ˜€

Just kidding πŸ˜‰ Good luck with the new challenge!

wow, cool idea to motivate yourself lol. But then again you would be more motivated and really make a true effort if you paid the first 10 people $100 each if you failed ;).

If that is the case you can just send mine to sofcontact@gmail.com lol ;).

Hey, wanna play some startcraft? Or a nice few poker comps? lol jk. Good luck meeting your goal. Although it is nice that you can get away without working as much as you know you should, a good idea to try to tighten up some if for only the sake of your sites. Good luck!

I think it’d be interesting to hear what exactly you get done in a day’s work. For every hour you increase your weekly labor, what more do you get done? What more do you do?

Do you consider posting on your forums as work? Finding advertising? Managing affiliate offers? Making calls? Reading other blogs? – “Research?”

    Thanks πŸ™‚

Yeah, I consider anything to do with work as work. Answering e-mails, writing blog entries, talking to advertisers, making offers on sites, researching, etc.

I’m currently doing a work session now and responding to you, Dan Neumann, is classified as work for me. That’s because I receive e-mail notification of comments, and since I’m going through my e-mails now, responding to your question was naturally part of my task πŸ˜‰

But yeah, my ‘work’ is pretty light most of the time. I’m not saying it’s difficult, the difficult part is forcing yourself to work (even when it’s easy) when there’s nothing pushing you to. It’s just too easy for me to just play computer games or do other things for weeks on end.. my mortgage still gets paid.. so what’s the problem, you know?

But obviously I know that this is a stubborn view which is why I’m always trying to force myself to work more.

That being said, back to work!
