I Won a MacBook Pro Package!

June 11, 2009 Posted by Tyler Cruz

Contests and competitions are everywhere in the make money online niche, and I’m surprised that more people don’t take advantage of them. Sure, many are very difficult to win, and a lot have sub-par prizes that don’t seem worth your time, but from time to time there are also contests where you have a good chance of winning awesome prizes.

Close to 3 months ago, Tracking202 ran a referral contest to help launch their unveiling of Tracking202 Pro (which I still highly recommend, BTW). Since I was already going to blog about it anyway, the contest was really a bonus for me. You can see my original post announcing their launch here: Tracking202 Pro Launches! which includes a quick screencast walkthrough as well.

The contest ran for 2 months, and I ended up having the most referrals so I won the grand prize: A MacBook Pro Package, $500, and 3-months free months of Tracking202 Pro!

Here are the specs of my MacBook Pro package:

  • 15.4-inch MacBook Pro,
  • 2.66GHz Duo Core
  • 4 GB Ram
  • 320GB HD
  • Wireless Microsoft Mouse
  • Sennheiser Headset
  • Kingston 8GB Flash Drive
  • Targus Laptop Bag
  • Full Apple 3-Year-Warranty

Together, the total value comes to over $3,300!

The contest was sponsored in part by The Epicenter Network, which put up the MacBook Pro Package, so I’d like to give a big thank you to them 🙂

Here is a description of them and what they have to offer:

The Epicenter Network is a company that was built from the ground up to help Affiliate Marketers succeed. We’ve built several platforms and tools to accomplish this, including DM2, an affiliate-targeted website building and marketing platform, and EpicenterAds, a contextual advertising platform. Our CPA network, Epicenter Select, is an elite, invite only, performance-based online advertising network. Striving to deliver the highest quality traffic on the web, Epicenter Select limits traffic sources to search, email, and display. At Epicenter, our publishers always come first. We provide exclusive and direct campaigns, top payouts, flexible payment terms and methods, personalized customer service and reliable, easy-to-use systems.

They’ll be at the upcoming Affiliate Summit East convention so be sure to stop by and say hello if you’re going there.

And I’d like to say thank you to Tracking202 for putting up the $500 and 3-months free of Tracking202 Pro!

Here’s a video of my MacBook Pro package. This is the first video I made on it and man iMovie is amazing:

I’ve played around with the MacBook Pro for a few hours now, and it’s the first time I’ve ever used a Mac before so I’m still getting used to it. It takes a while getting used to stuff such as not being able to fully maximize all windows, and there not being Home/End keys, etc.

However, I absolutely love iMovie. That’s the main reason I wanted a MacBook, too. Windows Movie Maker is just horrible and actually doesn’t work on my main PC (I was using my other laptop for it) and iMovie is easily as good as everyone says it is. I can’t wait to start using the built-in sound effects 🙂

The hardest transition will be to turn my MacBook Pro into an actual workstation for when I travel. Everything is set up on my PC with all my SSH and FTP clients, Photoshop, Excel and Word files, etc., but I know that I’ll certainly be using it for video editing and processing from now on.

Thanks again to The Epicenter Network for sponsoring the MacBook Pro and to Tracking202 for the $500 and running the competition!

Pretty cool. Congrats! I also won a MacBook, which will be my first Mac as well, and I should be getting that a little later this month. Keep us updated on how easy it is to adjust 🙂

That is a awesome prize Tyler. I need to enter a lot more contests to win some awesome prizes. Keep up the great work Tyler. Greg Ellison

  3. Michael Kwan says:

So you’re not going to turn around and re-prize the MacBook to your readers? 🙁

  4. I have to win myself a Mac. I want to try them out, but I don’t want to pay for mine, hehe.

Now I just need to find a good contest to enter.

  5. Zeeshan says:

“… and you know Germans make good stuff, eh?”

Love how the Canadian “Eh” sneaked up 2:37 into the video! Congrats’ on winning the Mac.

Will you be trying out Mac OS X “Snow Leopard” once it comes out or are you going to be sticking to what you’ve got installed already?

  6. Gerri says:

Good for you. I wish that could have been me though. We were internetless for a couple of weeks after my 2 year old daughter thought it would be fun to pour water all over my laptop. Insurance finally replaced it and I’m back online. Anway, enough of that – Congratulations!

  7. How many referrals did you get? 😀

  8. WOW! Congrats on the macbook! Yes it takes a lot of adjusting from pc to mac. Its a bit tricky at first, but its worth it! It sounds like you are really happy with it!

  9. It took me about a month to make the switch to the Mac. Home and End keys are the left and right arrow keys, just hold down Fn ‘Function’, and you will be away.

Also make sure you hit up the preferences to enable right clicking and two finger scrolling. Oh and as you are new to Twitter get ‘Tweetie’ for the Mac, great little app.

    Enjoy your Macbook!

  10. Nice to see you finally come over to the Mac side with the rest of us! 🙂

Windows can be fully maximized by just dragging the edges to the width you desire.

Have fun with it man! Congrats!

  11. Congratulations Tyler. It looks like you got hooked up with a pretty sweet prize package. I’ve rarely used a mac before too. It will take some getting used to. I think you still can use a lot of those windows applications with a windows emulator type program.

  12. Hey congrats man. I found the transition to mac a tough one as well. I have been in Windows so long it is not funny, then our college had macs and it was hard to adjust.

  13. congrats on the win! looks like a great little machine. I’m looking to jump into the world of Apple soon after yet another disappointing laptop for MS products. I was weary of the transition to Apple software but am sure its not going to be that hard after my current frustrations.

  14. Andreas says:

Just use Parallels Desktop for MAC and you got all your Windows Apps in your virtual machine.

  15. Ben Pei says:

This is awesome Tyler! What an envy.. Wish I won a Mac now too.

  16. I love macbooks.You are a lucky man.

  17. Congratz on the macbook. I had one once, I must say I prefer mac over pc.

  18. Just got one of these for our second daughter’s high school graduation. We’ve been an all Mac family since 1985. I think we have nine right now. Just love them.

    Have fun!

  19. I use OpenOffice on my machines to keep everything working together and not have to deal with cross platform compatibility.

  20. Congrats on the win! I am still pondering Tracking202, but if I do decide to pick it up, I will try to go through your link.

  21. Now this is what I call a prize! Congratulations mate, this is really something.
Oh, and as for Tracking202, I’ve been using it for a while and the effects are clearly visible 🙂

  22. Man I am super jealous. That is like to coolest thing ever.
