[...] Back in November, I had mentioned how I had sold Movie-Vault.com for $50,000. That was part of the problem; I learned a valuable lesson. In the future, don’t proclaim something as sold until you have the money in your hands. [...]

[...] Most of the success this man has had can most likely be attributed to two sites. The first being Movie-Vault.com. This is a huge site to the movie fan that’s been featured all over the internet, and to my understanding also on television. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither was this site. According to the site, it was founded in 2000. It probably took several years for this site to become profitable in a way to take it seriously. Apparently it was profitable enough, because Mr. Cruz has recently sold it. [...]

Besides the usual, sitepoint, digitalpoint, DNforums, where else do you go to sell sites and private banner ads? Seems like you make most of your income from selling private ads or sites as opposed to Adsence or other publisher networks.

Grats on selling Movie-Vault, Tyler. I'm sure the money will come through looking at the buyers of the site. I'm glad you got what you were looking for, this is one of the few sites I can imagine selling for more than a year's revenue based on potential alone. I was honestly amazed when you did your monthly breakdown and saw how little Movie-Vault was making ... with the right affiliate marketing the revenue could be through the roof.

Tyler

Since you spoke in the videocast of the intention to do affiliate marketing, I can't resist mentioning http://www.affedit.com/reftrack.php . It allows affiliates to track which keywords and ads convert to sales.

Yeah, I went for a quick estimate (just in my head) by the montly figures you posted a while ago when you recalculated your income. I'm not sure if those stats included sales of domains or anything though.

crunchi - eBay? I've checked there from time to time but have almost never seen a half-decent site for sale... maybe I'm missing something?

PigsnieLite - Once I have the payment I'll buy it.

AndrewR - I traded PageDump a week ago. And actually if I got $300,000 for PFO (I'd want more...) it'd be more around 40 months of income or so (about 3 years). Movie Vault sold for about 50 months of revenue, around 4 years worth.

Well, if you are looking for a site to develop, why not develop PageDump if you still have the domain?

Anyway, even if you got about $300,000 for PFO, that is still around 80 times your monthly income, which is more than enough to live off of until you come to another site. Also, if you end up selling Bookmark.com, you get 10% from that, which could bring in some nice cash also so you can get a site.

Congrats with selling Movie-Vault, $50,000 sounds like a good sum of money for it.. however, where did you get all of the reviews? Did you have users submit them, pay people to write them, or what? I'm interested on how you did it just for my knowledge.
