My Blogpreneur Contest Submission
May 1, 2008 Posted by Tyler CruzThe ad network Chitika has partnered with TiECON East to launch a contest for bloggers called The Blogpreneur Contest. To participate, you must include the contest badge and write a post highlighting the key factors of your blogging success in roughly 250 words or less (it will be very hard for me to write so little!).
The three chosen winners will be featured May 29th at the Entrepreneur Forum at TiECON East 2008 and will receive a plaque, one-year long subscription to Technology Review Magazine, and online video footage of their feature at the conference. Chitika will also promote the video of the prize announcement on their blog, and the winners will be promoted on Tie Boston’s website via a news story.
It’s good publicity to get your blog out – especially considering it will be featured on stage of hybrid events full of venture capitalists, angel investors, entrepreneurs, and the press. The deadline for the contest is May 8th, 2008, so if you want to enter you better do it soon. The winners will be announced on May 29th at the close of the Entrepreneur Forum at TiECON East 2008.
Here is my entry – please forgive me for the conceded, narcissistic nature of the following, but that is exactly what is required for entry :):
On October 21st, 2005, I created my first blog entry after many requests from members of a webmaster forum I used to frequent. They were interested in reading my day-to-day stories as a young internet entrepreneur who was starting to become successful online.
Two-and-a-half years later, my blog has grown beyond all my expectations with an RSS readership of 1400 (and growing), and is arguably one of the largest and most popular blogs in the “Make Money Online” niche. It is now one of my largest websites and has recently started to make gains in revenue as well, having brought in over $1,700 for the month of March.
My blog has certainly come a very long way since its inception, and I’ve learned many invaluable lessons through two years of trial-and-error as a blogger. That’s one of the most important ingredients for a successful blog, in my opinion: evolution. I’ve made many changes to my blog over the years, and no matter how small an improvement you make, it will certainly add up over time.
Other important ingredients for a successful blog include consistent and regularly updated content (new posts), a well-written or captivating writing style (you don’t have to be a writer to blog, you just have to be interesting!), and a sense of passion.
Passion is very important, especially when blogging, as it will show through in your writing. I created my blog because I found it fun to share my day-to-day experiences, and I continue to blog today because I still find it fun. The growing income is not a bad motivator, either 🙂
You can tell that was quite a hard post for you to write. It’s an interesting competition but I don’t think my experiences with a one week old blog is going to make the cut 😉

Either that or Tyler doesn’t read many ‘make money online’ blogs. Guess he compares himself to the likes of Jeremy Shoemaker.

I knew I’d get at least one person attack me on the “…and is arguably one of the largest and most popular blogs in the “Make Money Online” niche.” statement, and I can see how it sounds very egotistical.
But please remember that the post is for a contest. Anyhow, I do consider myself in the top-20 most popular “Make Money Online” blogs – is that not an accurate assessment? I never said I was the richest…
If you calculate the blog value from RSS subscribers, you certainly are but not in terms of what you are earning per month I believe.
Tyler don’t pay attention to people like Nick. Nick is just a bitter blogger who thinks that just by putting up a blog he’d make tons of money.

Talking about poker, paid plugs and overall gibberish does not belong in the mmo niche (except if your name is JC). The only posts that fall in that category are your monthly income reports.
Jusy look at your 10 Recent Posts. How many of them are about the mmo niche?
If you really want to jump to the next level, you need to roll up your sleeves and get busy.
Your blog has amazing potential but you don’t seem to care. If you did, you could EASILY double your revenue and traffic.

I’m not a Tyler hater, but it kinda annoys me when there are people with great opportunities and waste them on trivial things

I would like to read useful stuff about your network, tools, tips, best networks (without cheap affiliate links, since I never trust a review that has them).
Yet you keep coming back? I never understand these comments. I guess watching blogs is rather like watching big brother or some other reality TV show. 😉

well its kinda obvious you dont have a chance when 70% of the people who comment on your blog hate on it, and the other 30% are broke ass people in india who are probably looking to brown nose for some link bait.

An addition to your post, the winner not only will have free publicity from the sites mentioned, but just think of how many pro bloggers (tyler, john chow, ect.) will probably pick up the story, if not be there for the conference, and post about it on their blog, including you site!
