An Update on my Submit Campaigns

February 2, 2010 Posted by Tyler Cruz

I haven’t done a post in 5 days because I’ve been preoccupied with working on my submit campaigns and playing Mass Effect 2. But, I’ve beaten Mass Effect 2 last night (that game is way too short; get Dragon’s Age: Origins, that’s an awesome game and very long) so I have more free time to put towards work again.

I spent the majority of the past few days trying to scale my zip and e-mail campaigns. The traffic source I’m using is rather strange in how it works so it took a lot of trial and error with a lot of campaigns to finally realize how to scale them, as simple bid increases weren’t very consistent with extra traffic.

But late last night I finally discovered how to scale my campaigns and traffic started to pour in. While I’m getting a lot of traffic now, my profit margins have certainly taken a hit as a result. Now that I know how to scale my campaigns properly, my focus will be put towards profiting.

The good news is that I already have a lot of data to work with (to know what is working and what isn’t). Therefore, my efforts will largely entail trying to increase my CR as well as find the right balance for my bids to where I can get both good traffic and profit. That will take a bit of testing and cash to do.

Below is another screencast update on my campaigns:

If you’re reading this in an RSS viewer or via E-mail that you will probably not see the above video. In that case you will need to visit my blog via your browser in order to watch it: https://www.tylercruz.com.

Here’s a screenshot of my stats for those who wish to just have a quick glance. It’s my stats for February 1st up to 4PM. The number is red is the average gross earnings I’m receiving per click. I’m spending anywhere from $0.02 – $0.08 per click:

29

I’m using PeerFly as my main affiliate network and highly recommend them. Those are the stats from my PeerFly account too, so now you know which offers to avoid 🙂

They currently have 116 Zip/E-mail Submit offers (with more added all the time) so there’s certainly no shortage to choose from 🙂

I’ll give you guys another update in another few days. I hope to report some decent profit numbers by then. Stay tuned!

  1. Looks like you are still doing well with them! I have done a little bit of email submit offers, but we don’t really have zip offers in Australia so I will have to wait til my next project and focus on a more global market.

  2. Hey Tyler, thanks for the update. I find that I get into the same cycle of hitting refresh all the time to check stats… I now setup a campaign with a budget, check it an hour after traffic starts and then leave it for 24 hours… not only will it save you stress, but save you a ton of time you could use to build more campaigns 🙂

  3. I was told that Dragon’s Age was buggy on the console version- which version did you play?

      • Hate to run this subject of its rails, but what kind of replay value does it have? Will I still be able to function a normal work life while playing it?

(I remember when Borderlands came out, I couldn’t do anything for a week afterward)

What, Dragon’s Age? The storyline and game is very linear, unlike Fallout 3 or Oblivion, but there are a ton of choices you can make and the actual fighting gameplay is top notch. Even though it’s linear though, it does have replay value since there are many different paths you can make during the main storyline, as well as different character choices and upgrades, etc. It’s an absolutely amazing game and worth the 9.5 rating Gamespot gave it.

Mass Effect 2 was a disappointment though. I actually preferred the first one heh. The game is seriously 90% storyline and talking to people (with not many choices) and almost no fighting.

          Next up, Starcraft 2!

  4. Scaling campaigns can be a bit of a challenge. When you see something working it is tempting to go all out and try to outbid people for that traffic. Sometimes that even creates a bidding war where nobody can profit in the short term from the traffic at that price.

    are u using adwords?

  6. Hi Tyler! Cool to see that you are still doing well with your campains.

I still got the question, do you send your traffic directly to the landing page?

And one other about peerfly. On alot of the offers when I try to see the landing page i get the freelotto page. I’m I the only one, or do you get that one aswell? If you don’t, then I guess it’s because I’m not in the US, but the strange thing is that I can see some US only offers. (landingpage preview that is)

  7. Nice post. What’s the formula to find out your EPC of an offer?

  8. amazing… looks like you are still doing good with it tyler. Keep it up man

    Till then,

  10. Good work Tyler. I like seeing what you try to make the campaigns more efficient. It’s helpful.

  11. VHS to DVD says:

Judging from your EPC, you will need to continue keeping your CPC low. Do you think that is scalable with your current advertising partner? BTW, as someone paying many multiples of your CPC for leads on Adwords, i’m jealous….

    • Tyler Cruz says:

Well that’s what I’ve been trying to do the past week… scale it while still making a profit. Unfortunately, since my EPC is quite low, my ceiling is also quite low, but I currently have a few campaigns going which are doing around $10/day profit each. So, I guess the only thing I can do is try to find more such workable campaigns and launch them laterally. Therefore, if I can find 20 good submit offers (which would be a lot), that would essentially be $200 day profit.
