My Campaign is Starting to Pick Up

August 11, 2009 Posted by Tyler Cruz

A couple days ago I blogged about how both YSM and AdWords were keeping my 2nd campaign in limbo, neither approving or disapproving it.

Earlier today both networks notified me that the campaign had been deactivated, with AdWords giving me a decently descriptive reason. I dug into their Ad Guidelines and Policies to look further and I think I know why they disapproved it now. It’s a pretty strict stance though and my offer is really nothing shady, but I can semi-understand their rationale for deactivating it, not wanting any possible lawsuits.

Even though the campaign was denied by both networks, at least I have closure on it now and know that it was disapproved. The worst part was just waiting and not knowing. Now I can just suck up the 10-12 hours I spent making the site and focus on new offers.

And in fact, that’s just what I did last night. I dug around MarketLeverage and Copeac for some new offers to run and after a lot of searching, came up with 6 I’m willing to try, 3-4 of which I’m very eager and excited about. Later today I will go domain hunting and then start getting the hosting set up for them, and will then start working on the sites.

Campaign #1 is Really Picking Up

My first campaign, which I’ve been running on YSM for 2 weeks now and just added to AdWords a couple of days ago, is really starting to pick up.

Yesterday was a fantastic day netting a total of $154.14 with a 122.47% ROI!

The amazing thing is that I have not optimized this campaign. It really has just sat with the original keywords I added to it.

I’m really proud of my landing sites. It’s too bad I never got to launch my 2nd campaign as I made a kick-ass landing page for it too and I’m sure it would have done well also.

The conversion rate from the offer’s landing page yesterday was 30% which is amazing! Especially considering how stupid the product is, lol:

Right now I’m getting a 7% conversion rate on each click I buy from YSM and AdWords. That means that for every 100 clicks I can expect 7 conversions, or $245, thus making my EPC an insanely high $2.45.

If I average a $1 CPC, that would equate to a $100 cost with a $145 profit. Since my EPC is so high, it means that I can increase my bid to try to scale the campaign. Even though my ROI would naturally shrink, the end result should be a higher net with a narrower margin.

Now, of course this is still all theory and talk. Yesterday was a great day, but who knows if my campaign will continue that good. After all, I didn’t touch the campaign so it really shouldn’t be improving like this.

On another note, I’m currently around 7th position. I wonder how much more traffic I can gain if I raise my bids and climb to 4th spot or so. Hmmm…

I’ll keep you guys posted on how things go.

It’s strange to see a campaign pick up “just like that”. There’s usually a good reason for it. Are you tracking down to traffic source level so you can see which traffic source is converting best (just from looking at your figures it looks like YSM is junk compared to Adwords)? Also what about organic traffic, has your landing page maybe started to pick up some freebie visitors?

Yeah, I’m sure it was just an unnaturally lucky day… but I’m wondering if it somehow has to do with it being a Monday as well…

Most of my leads are coming from the PPC engines… I did get a couple naturally leads but they were most likely due to Tracking202Pro hiccuping…

That is pretty cool that you are converting really good on your first campaign. Greg Ellison

I know you are keeping some things close to your chest, but it sounds like the site you created is the problem and not the actual ads you created.

Will you share if the issue was your content on the site (which you could change/update) or the domain name itself (which you can’t change)…

  4. GFY says:

Nice results ! It seems to really have picked up on Aug.8th when adword kicked in.

  5. Nice one Tyler 🙂 going great

  6. Julien says:

I hope for you that the conversion still rocks 😉

  7. Would you be willing to share the landing page of the “unapproved” campaigns?

  8. Brad says:

ya, you spend all that time and effort on it. Why not show us. 🙂

    • Tyler Cruz says:

My landing sites really aren’t anything too special. While I take a lot of care into ‘perfecting’ them, they’re not all that different from a lot of what’s already out there… nothing ground-breaking or anything.

      • You should pick an offer and do an example campaign for us. Show us Landing pages, ect step by step.

That would be helpful and cool.

        • Tyler Cruz says:

Haha, maybe one day if I’m ever making big bucks. I’m still a newbie like you guys…

        • Tyler Cruz says:

Sorry, I didn’t mean to say that you’re all newbies, just that I am.

        • Paul B says:

Or even better why doesn’t Tyler come up with a profitable campaign, zip it up and send it to us so that we can just all rip it off? FFS people are so damn lazy these days!

All the information you need to get this up and running is already freely available out there, including some very nice landing page templates. I think Tyler is just trying to show people that IT WORKS if you put even a little bit of effort in.

        • Luke says:

Case studies that do well are actually a GREAT way to increase traffic to your blog and it would probably be well worth Tyler’s time to go through the process of actually setting up a landing page and campaign with us.

        • Paul B says:

Speaking as somebody who is 100% reliant on the internet for their income I’d much rather have a profitable affiliate campaign than some more visitors to my blog.

  9. EarningStep says:

that’s great . i wonder how many products are you selling now

  10. Now if we could just get tyler to show us what product he was trying to sell…:)

  11. Congratulations on you high ROI. I am not a fan of using ppc click traffic because intte past I have lost money. But to see you doing so well is inspiring. I might give ppc marketing another try.

  12. paul says:

Glad to see that your campaign is taking off. Can you tell us what product was declined and why?

  13. Since the first campaign didn’t work out well, tell us in depth what Google had to say.

  14. every day you made more and more profit.Well except the beginning of the month.

  15. Nickie says:

Thats some good news. Good luck for the future!

  16. There you go! That’s super exciting to see. How does it feel??

  17. wow man, you getting rich everyday.

  18. I think this offer is one of those become rich over night schemes with ****** $1.95 shipping 🙂 I agree that they suck but it is a new method of high profit arbitrage.. Go Tyler Go :)))

  19. Good money…but sad thing is I still don’t know where to start on Affiliate Marketing 🙂

  20. Making that much money daily is currently out of my mind right now. But I want to ask you, How did you make that chart? Did you use any tool or just by free hand..?

  21. Tunes says:

Excellent results have nothing to say …. Thanks for the interesting post.

  22. Mohamed says:

Tyler – interesting. I’ve never tried PPC Affiliate marketing as I’ve always been scared of loosing my shirt. Can you recommend or suggest any programs where I can read more about it? I did come across PPC Classroom 2.0 and am wondering if you or anyone has any information on it? Yes, I’ve searched Google and there is a lot of information – but most of it leads to old e-books.

    • There is no need of joining such programs like PPC classroom. According to me they are waste of time and money.

The better way is to read blog articles which provides the same info as these kind of stuffs challenge to teach.

      • Lee Ka Hoong says:

I agree with you that we no need to waste money and time to join those PPC classroom unless there is somebody like Darren Rowse from Problogger recommend it, then I think the PPC program should be having something that never revealed out there before.

  23. paul says:

Did you change anything from day 1 and 2 to the 3rd, 4th, and 5th days when you started turning a profit? I think I would be discouraged after two days of no sales.

  24. Lee Ka Hoong says:

Tyler you’re really doing good with affiliate marketing, the thing bothers me to start affiliate marketing is I’ve limited knowledge on how to create landing pages and advertising using Adwords. I’m going to learn more about these before I can start my own campaign.

    Good earning! 😀

  25. Mohamed says:

Thanks for the tip – I will search for more sources of information and keep checking back here. I do understand the basics of it and was working with someone yesterday that did purchase the PPC Classroom and what he told me didn’t impress me too much – I mean, I already knew much of what he spoke to me about; I’ve just never tried affiliate marketing using the PPC model but the ‘old fashioned’ way of creating content…

  26. Bidet says:

Its good to see that your campaign is picking up. Its probably going to go up even more once you start optimizing for it
