On the Cusp of Something Massive

June 27, 2012 Posted by Tyler Cruz

I really shouldn’t be writing this post, as it’ll only make me look silly and naive if things don’t work out as I hope they do. But my blog has never been about trying to make myself look good, so let me continue.

As you know, I’ve been focusing on affiliate marketing the past 6-8 months, and things have been going pretty well lately. In fact, June has been my best month in affiliate marketing ever, completely eclipsing any prior month.

While things have been going well, things can change at any time in affiliate marketing, and so I wanted to find a new traffic source not only to grow, but to provide some added stability as well. In my previous post, I wrote about how I started using Facebook recently, and that I was hitting my daily spend limit cap every day.

Below is a screenshot of my billing transactions from Facebook since I started on June 11th, 2012:

I was starting to get a little bit impatient waiting for Facebook to gradually increase my daily spend limit, so I decided to contact them and ask for a manual increase. I was already at the $500 daily spend limit, and would soon hit the $1,000 limit, so I would have needed to contact them soon enough anyway.

I was very delighted to find out that within a few hours, an ad representative from Facebook increased my account to $5,000 daily spend limit!

I then asked her if it would be possible to get it increased past $5,000 in the future, and she responded with a canned response that they would consider it if and when I start to regularly hit the $5K cap several days in a row. It’s good to know that there’s a possibility of getting the account increased past 5K day.

With my new 5K cap, traffic is sent in at a dramatically faster rate, due to how the Facebook ad delivery algorithm is set. When I woke up in the morning, I was a little surprised to find that $600 worth of traffic had already been sent in!

This sucked, because my traffic doesn’t convert in the morning, and there’s no option in Facebook to set your ads to run at certain times. So I have to manually adjust my settings each night before I go to bed now – not a huge deal, but a little bit of a pain.

Traffic was coming in fast, so I had to constantly monitor things throughout the day and throttle things down a bit. I could have very easily hit my $5,000 cap yesterday, but things weren’t converting well so I had to really slow things down.

At the end of the day, I spent a total of $3,530.18 just on Facebook advertising yesterday.

7

Unbelievable. It’s scary to know that I can easily hit my $5K daily spend limit on Facebook… that’s $150,000 a month. Mark Zuckerberg better send me a Christmas present if I ever do push $150K of traffic in a month!

However, as I mentioned, things went extremely bad profit-wise. I was testing several  different angles, and was running about 5-6 different offers – all which did completely horrible save for one.

I probably ended up losing around $2,000 yesterday. I’m too lazy to calculate the exact number (takes too long, and isn’t necessary).

That being said, things aren’t all gloomy. I got a bit overzealous and perhaps greedy with my campaigns, so very early this morning (I couldn’t sleep) I paused all my losers and set up some new campaigns to expand on my winners.

I’m still waiting for traffic to start coming on those revised campaigns, but if they do as well as I think they might, then I will have something very good going, and should be able to net $1,000/day.

I Spent $5,500 Yesterday on Advertising

Facebook is just one of my traffic sources. I ended up spending $3,530.18 on it yesterday, but I also ended up spending around $1,900 at my other traffic sources.

It’s hard to believe that I spent $5,500 just on advertising in a single day! I am now once again running into cash-flow problems as I am growing too fast. After all, a week of $5,500/day works out to nearly $40,000 a week in expenses!

Keep Your Fingers Crossed

Again, who knows what will happen. After all, yesterday was a big day in the red for me, but it’s not like I didn’t know what was going on. I was collecting data on what works and what doesn’t, and now I definitely know what doesn’t Winking smile

If my new campaigns go as well as my data says they should, then you will be seeing some big numbers from me soon (at least as much as my cash-flow will allow).

Below is an screenshot of how June has been for me so far, from June 1st, 2012 to June 26th, 2012:

Yes, all gross income numbers. I provide net numbers in my other posts, if you want to get a rough idea of what my net might be.

Wish me luck! I’m really close to getting something big going here!

  1. Awesome numbers, but you need to improve that ROI πŸ™‚

  2. Jim says:

The only “massive” thing you are close to are losses. You are like an addicted gambler that can’t stop and I fear you are in way over your head.

  3. Kyle says:

You running these direct linked? Thought facebook might frown on running directed linked affiliate offers for dating

  4. Simon says:

Good for you Tyler, hope it all works out well, especially after the Robot Wars fiasco!

  5. Kyle says:

Any issues with Quality of Leads you are sending…this is some massive traffic and those have to back out or its over for ya. Unless you are running lead gen offers targeting something that requires a CC

  6. Jasmine says:

Those are really huge numbers. Spending $5,500 just on advertising in a single day is definitely a league above me!

Anyway, I have not really tried advertising on Facebook. Perhaps I should… what do you think, Tyler. Do you think I should run some of my hosting offers on Facebook ads?… Not $5,500 a day, but perhaps at $15 a day?

What do you think… need some good advice here from a beginner. πŸ™‚

  7. danny says:

Do you primarily use peerfly or use different networks?

  8. You will probably need to spend millions every month to get a gift from Zuck πŸ™‚

  9. e says:

How are you doing the past couple of days? Any updates?

  10. used tires says:

Well, it is like they say, nothing ventured, nothing gained. There are quite a few instances in my own experience where I wish I had bitten off a bigger chunk. I really hope it works out for you, Tyler.

  11. Anon says:

Why not use something like SAM from BrighterOption or one of the other Facebook ad managers – allows you to do auto scheduling for time of day I think? Also dont get too far in debt without getting funds from network – be sure they’ll pay πŸ™‚

  12. Well I hope you save a little bit of this money your making and reinvest into more long term things.

  13. Jasmine says:

I have also just started to advertise on Facebook. Well, not hoping much, except to get some traffic. So far, I don’t see any conversions. Maybe I need to increase my budgets each day to see some result.

  14. tim says:

This is awesome and congratulations to you dude…I’m sure you’ll hit even bigger numbers in the future and shut the mouth of all the haters that comments your posts lol.

I’d be glad if could describe a lil bit what offers you’re running, I’m not saying the exact offers but what kind ofpayouts etc…

    Thanks!

What works for me doesn’t necessarily work for others, and what works for others doesn’t always work for me… you just need to test on your own. That being said, I don’t like to talk about any specifics (or even non-specifics) of my campaigns unfortunately. I can tell you that I’ve run a very wide range of types of offers though.

can you elebarote a little on your winning campaign?

    how much profit is it

  16. xmn343 says:

is there a phone # we can reach facebook ads at? my ads got flagged and i can’t add any payment now…

  17. Jace says:

Wow those are some massive numbers.

Any updates as to how your offers are converting?

  18. xmn343 says:

it seems like it’s a payment issue. haven’t even started running the ad. very frustrating!

Uh-oh… “THAT”. Yeah… that’s a standard message, and it means that your account is likely banned (or will be shortly). It has happened to _many_ advertisers. Some are able to reply and get their account back, but most aren’t.

Was this a new account, or an old one which you started using again?

  19. Good luck with your campaigns I have not heard of many people actually profiting from facebook, but have no clue how they were going about it. I have also heard horror stories of people who hired facebook marketers that completely tanked and were not successful at all and ended up really hurting them in the long run.

  20. I’ve tried facebook with $250 and wasn’t able to get any return. Maybe I’m doing it wrong

  21. Hi Tyler,
As I wrote in a previous comment, do not put your money on Facebook, it is a social media with very low purchasing power of which you will discover. You will lose a lot of money if you stay. Take the loss and move on with something else.

    • Tyler Cruz says:

Thanks for the advice, but I do not believe you know what you’re talking about. Your previous comment was “I do not think Facebook is for ads, it’s a social media where most people just harping with their friends and are not the least bit interested in the advertising and do not click on them.”

Are people EVER really interested in ads? Do people watch TV for the commercials?

    • I’m going to have to disagree with you as well. Though quite a bit more saturated than it used to be, there is still tons of profit in Facebook if you know what you’re doing.

  22. xmn343 says:

please give us an update since you posted. am very interesting in your winning campaigin pgorsess.

  23. Karan Labra says:

    That’s big money Tyler!

  24. James says:

So is there any updates here Tyler?

Have you made any breakthroughs with FB and PPC advertising? I have considered doing FB ppc as well but haven’t fully decided if I’ll start there or Google, or Microsoft, or Yahoo. Will decide soon and test.

Hopefully you aren’t operating in the negative anymore! Good luck.

  25. @ xmn343 Im sure we all are

  26. Very excited to see what you do with this! I was excited when i hit $100 in one day! lol.

  27. I’m just surprised that numbers like this can still be reached in im.

  28. Stick Horse says:

Does this shxt actually work ?

  29. Sonia says:

Facebook is a bit controversial regarding ads, bot click, accidentally clicks on mobile, etc..

I do not know what you’re promoting but with my FB account I can only see dating ads and other low rating stuff that annoying me.

  30. Amazing beat! I wish to apprentice concurrently because you amend your internet site, precisely how may my partner and i register for your site internet site? The actual bank account solved the problem a acceptable option. I ended up somewhat common of this your current broadcast given vibrant clear thought
