New Monthly Net Income Record: $52,447.17
July 2, 2013 Posted by Tyler CruzI find myself looking forward to the first of each month as it means that I get to publish my monthly report on how my affiliate marketing campaigns have been faring on a pure numbers level.
This is now my sixth post in this monthly post series, meaning that I’ve been doing them for exactly half a year now. It will be really neat to be able to compare my exact numbers in the future, say 1-2 years down the road. Hopefully I’ll have higher numbers by then and can reflect on how much I’ve improved by then.
Now, as I did last time, I want to quote what I ended my previous income report with, in the “June Predictions” section at the end:
“As I wrote at the beginning of this blog post, I’ve been wrong in every single one of my predictions to date – always fairly confident that my earnings would be far lower than they actually ended up being.
Even so, I’m going to once again predict that this month will be far lower than the previous month’s. In fact, I believe June’s results will be half of what May did, so around $20,000 or so.
This isn’t a blind prediction – it’s based on hard numbers and trends on my campaigns.
Obviously I hope I’m wrong, but this is what I’m expecting.
As I mentioned there, I’ve been wrong in every single one of my predictions to date – always fairly confident that my earnings would be far lower than they actually ended up being.
I swear I don’t do this on purpose.
June once again proved my predictions wrong, as I once again set new personal records for both gross and net income from my affiliate marketing campaigns!
Below are my affiliate marketing numbers (not inclusive of my other revenue sources) for the month of June 2013:
June 2013 Affiliate Campaign Income:
$142,606.00
This is a massive increase over my previous personal record gross month, set back just last month in May 2013 at $104,600.50. That’s nearly a $40,000 increase!
This is now the 3rd month in which I’ve grossed 6-figures.
Expenses:
$90,158.83
Traffic Source Breakdown:
- Traffic Source #1: $585.65
- Traffic Source #2: $460.44
- Traffic Source #3: $232.43
- Traffic Source #4: $32,651.49
- Traffic Source #5: $56,228.82
Unfortunately, my expenses in June also made a new record… by a lot. My previous highest costing month was February 2013, when I spent $72,516.36, so June really was a big increase in expenses as well.
My credit card bill is always funny to look at 
Net Profit:
$52,447.17
Man alive! A new monthly net income record on my affiliate marketing campaigns – and by an insane margin too – over $12,000 more than my previous record!
My previous record was $40,198.38 made just last month in May 2013.
Despite the higher numbers, my ROI stayed pretty much the same, only dropping by 4% from 62% ROI to 58% ROI.

2013 has continued to be an insane year for me so far.

Wow.
It’s still surreal to me that I ever made it to this level. I used to be in awe of guys pushing 6 figures a month gross and dream about one day achieving those kinds of numbers myself.
In the past 2 months alone, my campaigns brought in a total of $247,206.50, netting me a profit of $92,645.55. Crazy!
Using the first half of the year as an average, I am on pace to finish the year at 1.2 million dollars gross and $430,000 net profit.
In fact, I actually took the liberty of porting the above graph to Excel so that I could graph it out and set a linear projection.
The linear projection is based off the past 6 months of data, and is projected for the next 4 months:
As you can see, the current projection is that in 4 months by October 2013, I am on pace to be netting close to $70,000 a month.
But this is based off of only 6 points of data, so it’s a VERY LOOSE projection. As time goes on, the projection will only get more and more accurate, which is pretty cool.
June Recap
I spent the majority of June split between optimizing and running my existing campaigns, running and optimizing a few new ones, and working on reducing my ever-growing inbox.
Affiliate marketing-wise, I didn’t spend very much time on new stuff, which will bite me in the ass as you’ll read about further down in a moment.
I split the vast majority of my traffic between two networks, almost 50% exactly down the middle, and built up a good relationship with the new network I started working with. Unfortunately, the offers I have been running them died out so I’ll be leaving them for a while.
I did a large IO on a new traffic source, which proved to be rather horrible, so I still have a lot of unused funds at that source. Hopefully I’ll be able to find a way to at least break even with them.
Overall though, June was mostly spent on existing campaign maintenance and catching up on e-mails.
July Plans
In July, my eyes are completely set on catching up on all but the most time-consuming of my e-mail. I am currently at 609 (462 unread) e-mails in my inbox as I write this, and I want to get down to 0 unread and maybe 25 “starred” e-mail that I will put on hold.
I am also determined to finish my corporate taxes. I said that last month but I HAVE to get them done ASAP. I’m already late on them and have to pay penalties and interest, which will be a lot of money. I NEED TO GET THEM DONE. But not until I finish my e-mails first (I need to finish my e-mails first so that I have all the proper paperwork for my taxes).
After e-mails and taxes are done, my goal is to sell at least 1 more website.
Affiliate marketing-wise, when I have actual time to do so, there’s this one particular offer on PeerFly that I have been really wanting to try on Facebook for a long time now. It’s been quite a while since I launched a bunch of new campaigns on new offers, so that’ll be interesting.
July Income Predictions
And now the bad horrible devastating news.
This is the part of the post where I usually predict that the following month will be far lower. Even though I have so far been completely wrong (fortunately!) whenever I have predicted this, this time will be no exception.
In fact, I don’t think July will just be a lot lower, but actually in the 4 digit net profit range, instead of the mid-5 digits that I have been doing.
The reason for this is because over the past week, the perfect storm hit and things have just been hitting me incredibly hard. Offer after offer has been going down, and competition has been increasing.
This just goes to prove that things can literally change overnight, as I’ve written so many times before. As it looks right now, I’ll have gone from a $52,000+ net profit month to making virtually nothing the next.
This is also precisely why I am extremely conservative with how much I pay myself out of the company. For times like these, I am very grateful I have a good chunk of savings in the bank.
As always, I obviously hope I’m wrong in my prediction, but this is probably the one time (unfortunately) that my prediction will finally hold true.
This is also the first time that I am not looking forward to publishing next month’s income report… we’ll just have to wait and see what happens in the next tax reporting period.
Another great result, despite your gloomy predictions (which have not come anywhere near true so far).
I must say that even though you think the future is bleak for the affiliate marketing that you do, it’s very unlikely that your income will take any extreme dive downhill.
Why?
You have very huge funds to play around with. Anyone who has the $90,158.83 that you spent in June (and of course much more in the bank – over a million dollars? 😀 ) will always make money in affiliate marketing. It’s just a matter of changing directions or changing tactics/tools, etc.
Like I said in one of my earlier comments here, affiliate marketing will never die. The techniques, strategies, tactics, tools, resources, etc will change, but top affiliate marketers like you and the others will always make money!

Anyone can spend $90K a month if you have the cashflow. I could spend 20 million a month if I had the cashflow to support it.
Hopefully I do bounce back, but it’s just that finding profitable campaigns is very difficult for me. It’s like finding a needle in a haystack, so when successful campaigns die, it’s very devastating.
I’m not succesful or experienced enough yet where I can just launch a bunch of new campaigns and expect at least one of them to be a winner…
I can understand what you are saying, Tyler, but instead of focusing your mind on hoping for the worst, you can focus on how to continue doing even better than you are doing now, whether profitable campaigns die or not.
Asking the right questions will ALWAYS provide us with the right answers. If you focus on and keep asking yourself (and asking others who know more than you, of course) how to continue finding profitable campaigns, you will find them!
About not being successful or experienced enough, that’s very humble of you but I think you know more than you think you know. We all do. Remember reading and reading for that final exams even though you have read enough? 🙂 That happens to all of us.
Anyway, we look forward to more successful affiliate marketing months ahead for you. Lots of small (and even big) affiliate marketers are obviously following you and looking up to you, so you can’t let us down now, 🙂

You mentioned being late on your corporate taxes, do you do the these taxes yourself or with an accountant? I think you mentioned somewhere on your blog that you have a corporation with you being the only employee. Can you do a post about how and why you started a corporation? like the tax benefits, how to set it up, how much it costs, etc.
I he a number of such posts in the past, I’m sure you’ll be able to find them.
I can’t remember where Tyler is from, but I have a Canadian corporation that I run my affiliate business through, and if memory serves, it is taxed at 12%, versus personal taxes which are taxed at a much higher rate. I think I was averaging around 25% tax rate at about 100k in personal income many years ago.
So, incorporating can certainly have some sizable financial benefits, even with the $2500 per year I pay my accountant to do my bookkeeping and corporate tax return.
Canada here too, BC specifically. We have a fantastic corporate tax rate here.

I am not trying to copy your stuff.
One of the problems Tyler has mentioned with the entire affiliate marketing is that competition is increasing, so revealing his niche and traffic sources, to exact details, is not a good idea.
Traffic is traffic, if we arent running the same teeth whitening offer he is running we are fine!
Then how will knowing what I run and where I run it help you?
Most traffic sources work, and from what I’ve been told by some big affiliates, most offers work – you just need to find out a winning formula to make them work together.
My point is that you should concern yourself less on what other people are running, and more on simply trying to make your own campaigns work.
TEST. LIKE. HELL.
Bit ironic isn’t it? I know you didn’t create those successful campaigns yourself without some help. You used an extensive amounts of spy tools and basically copied other peoples campaigns.
Then you openly talk about how much your making… That’s the dumbest thing you can do. Someone can easily look up anything you’re doing if you give them a reason too.
So don’t be a hypocrite and tell people not to copy what you’re doing. You invited to do it by exposing yourself in front of everyone and you did it yourself with those spy tools.

What I noticed from your income reports is that you always rely on your secret 5-7 traffic sources that require you to spend money on. Haven’t you tried some new that could be as much effective as those but save you money on your expenses?
I always try new sources, but it’s more to grow and expand and scale to rather than to try to save money…
I understand why you can not share an example of a current campaign that is making money. But, could you breakdown a past campaign that was profitable but that isn’t anymore and has been abandoned? How did you discover the campaign, the ups and downs throughout its life cycle, why it became unprofitable, the product used etc.
Very fair question.
The problem is, that even if a campaign is abandoned, that it is never truely dead. At least not for me. Later down the road I may revisit the campaign because of a new idea I had, or maybe the advertiser increased the payout of the offer, or competition died down, etc. Revealing an old campaign, even one that I haven’t run for years or was never profitable, just has far too many cons to pros.
I totally understand that this would be a great way to learn for newer affiliates though. This is why I recommend paid affiliate marketing forums, as there are countless case studies and follow-along campaigns just like what you’re looking for… unfortunately, I have to be more generic in my examples…

Awesome. I’d be curious to see a post regarding how you used to be in awe of the $xxx,xxx gross guys – and what the biggest factors were for you to also get to that point (test test test, abandon fears, more networks, etc.).
I’d also like to see a post (or comment) on – when you think you’re going to have a down month, or less than the last, what were the main factors the following month that helped you achieve exactly the opposite (luck, new traffic source, changed up landing page, introduced new network?).

I run multiple campaigns and offers on those sources so I can’t really say as it varies from campaign to campaign…
Just give us the avarage ROI from all active campaigns of traffic source #4 and then traffic source #5… Its just 2 numbers, not a complete list for each campaign…

Apparently a day before posting this Tyler had an IM conversation with John Chow telling him all the campaigns died. That should probably be mentioned here as a warning to others who might think of running up their credit cards in desparation.

I have to agree with Really ??? – Stats and charts are simply NOT proof! With the plethora of money making blogs and websites, plus, a ton of other regular blogs – how can one make this much per month? To me these numbers are exaggerated.
It’s like having a ton of restaurants in one block – the more there is in a defined area, the less traffic one gets, due to the competition and other places to visit! So, in reality, these numbers are totally false!
Seems hard to believe, I know 🙂
I, too, can make up similar numbers. It’s easy to say I earned $140,000 in one month without any proof (just look at sellers on Warrior Special Offers). Only one that is legit is Pat Flynn because he shows proof.
On the other hand, this is a good strategy – claim you’re making 6 figures, get a lot of readership, and go from there. I will use this trick on my blog and report back.

Just PPC/PPV. Tried SEO in the past – it’s not for me. WAY TOO SLOW, search-engine dependant, and just as volitile as PPC (if not more!).
